Yes, It's A Plane With Eyeballs

Nothing like some arts & crafts on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I bought a wooden model airplane from the dollar bin at Michael's last time we were there, and we figured this weekend was the perfect time to pull it out.

So we glued:

And stuck:

And glued:

And stuck:

Then we painted:

Once the painting was done, we broke out the glue sticks again and the bag of foam shapes and made some art:

When we were done, Robert immediately ran over to the fridge and stuck it on there!

Once the paint was dry, we applied the googly eyeballs to the plane:

Because you know, a plane just isn't complete without googly eyeballs.

Fun With Image Editing

Went to Nanny and Pop-Pop's tonight for dinner, and Daddy experimented with the camera a bit and created this neat animated gif!

I highly recommend GIMP, which is a free image editor whose powers rival Photoshop's. I'll play with this more in the future.

Robert Reads To Baby

Robert took a few minutes this morning to read a book to "baby" while we were getting ready to go. He'd be a great big brother, wouldn't he? Hmmm...

Ages 5 and Up? Bah!

My family will remember my United States map puzzle I had as a kid, with the state capitals and all that. I loved it so much that Aunt Lauren bought Robert one a while back. Well, he's technically too young for it -- it's ages 5 and up -- but he found it behind my dresser a few weeks ago. This morning, he brought it downstairs and started doing it.

Without help.

I could tell this story in two pictures -- before and after -- but Emily and I were both amused and amazed this morning.

First, Idaho. I don't know why, but Idaho came first, and became the linchpin for every other state in the western U.S.

He found Indiana, but couldn't figure out where it went at first... then he found it, stuck it in the middle, and used that to figure out the eastern states.

Every once in a while, he would accidentally knock a state out of alignment, which caused him great despair...

...until Mommy came down and pushed them back where he had originally put them.

Robert asked Mommy to come down for the last part.

He was pretty proud of himself.

Sometimes Mommy had to hold a state in place (in this case, Florida) so that it didn't move (and cause the aforementioned despair) when adding another piece (in this case, Alabama).

Actual video. I don't know why I didn't do this earlier, when it was more amazing -- at this point, he was getting tired -- but here's a little vignette I call "Up By Maine":

Then Robert decided he could do the rest on his own.

Done! High five from Mommy!

And... repeat.

Awesome.

Strong Museum

After Sesame Place, we spent a few days visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Geneseo. On Sunday, we went up to the Strong Museum. First stop was the giant fish tanks:

Then... WAIT! WHAT'S THAT?!?!

More Sesame Street!

"I know that guy!"

Emily stops to chat with video Abby...

...while Robert takes Cookie and Elmo for a ride in the cab.

Strong has lots of great interactive exhibits. You turn these wheels, and the letter cubes above them turn to spell different words:

And near the taxicab we saw earlier, they have a little "dispatcher's office" where you can "clock in".

One room is set up with a 1800's kitchen. Robert felt right at home and immediately jumped in to help cook.

He even made a phone call (to Nanny and Pop-Pop, as all phone calls are)...

...and composed a quick sonata.

He stopped in the "post office" to write out a postcard...

...and visited the butterfly house, which was really neat. (Although honestly, I could have done with a lot less bugs.)

Daddy's favorite part is the little mini-Wegmans. Robert grabbed his little cart and started shopping for... well... you know:

He checked out the meat counter, even "washed his hands," but decided to just go back for more macaroni and cheese instead.

On to the registers!

Some apple juice...

...and of course, multiple boxes of macaroni and cheese.

Don't forget your receipt!

Robert was tired, so he threw a temper tantrum in the middle of the floor. Thankfully, Grandma was having none of it.

A quick call to Elmo, and he was back on his feet.

Train ride with Daddy!
